London, 24 Aug-(ANA)-A new report has named Africa as the continent with the world’s highest birth rate.
The joint report by the US government’s aid agency (USAID) and the NGO Population Reference Bureau claims Africa’s population is growing by about 24 million a year.
It estimates one billion people are currently living in Africa, and the number is set to double by 2050.
The report says on average a woman in Sub-Saharan Africa has 5.3 children in comparison to global average of 2.6 children.
The report also reveals that sub-Saharan Africa has the world’s most youthful population, and it is projected to remain that way for decades. (ANA)
