SA tribe to bridge digital divide

Pretoria, 06 Aug-(ANA)-A tribal authority, aware of the critical skills shortage in South Africa, has embarked on a project to supply computer labs to schools across 32 villages in the North West Province.

The Bakgatla-Ba-Kgafela Tribal Authority said that the project would target the Moruleng area with the aim of providing quality education in the area.

Chief Kgosi Nyalala Pilane said: “We are preparing learners for careers beyond the classroom and we are equipping them with skills that they will be able to use throughout their lives.”

The project, which was estimated to cost R500 000 (about €40 000) has equipped nine rural schools with computer labs already.

The chief said the project was part of a general Information Communication Technology (ICT) strategy that would better prepare learners for the outside world by helping them bridge the so-called “digital divide”. (ANA)
