Harare, 29 July-(ANA)-Zimbabwe's Tel One has been hit by a wave of cable thefts that has crippled its operations.
According to an official of the telecom company the situation is impacting badly on measures to resuscitate the country's sole fixed landline operator.
The spokesperson Collins Wilbesi told the media, “Theft of telecommunication cables and equipment in the country has reached unprecedented levels.
The cost of replacing stolen cables is prohibitive.”
Years of economic turmoil characterized by shortage of foreign currency to import vital equipment as well as vandalism of its infrastructure have seen the company’s operations take a knock. (ANA)
