The Federal Republic of Kabylia Officially Proclaims its Independence
PARIS, Dec. 15 - (ANA) - Gathered this Sunday, December 14, 2025, in Paris, and before a large audience gathered to share the moment, the leaders of the Movement for the Self-Determination of Kabylia (MSK) solemnly proclaimed the independence of their country: the Federal Republic of Kabylia.
Despite numerous obstacles and attempts by the Algerian regime to sabotage it, the ceremony did indeed take place. It was this Sunday, December 14, 2025, in Paris. The event is significant: the solemn declaration of Kabylia's independence. It is done. From now on, call it the Federal Republic of Kabylia.
The event took place in a private venue in the heart of the French capital, near the Arc de Triomphe, before a large audience of activists and leaders of the movement, as well as foreign dignitaries.
As soon as the declaration was made, the speech by the president of the MAK, Ferhat Mehenni, who had become President of the Republic, was given, and the Kabyle national anthem was sung. Parliamentarians, representatives of associations, and activists from all walks of life, who had come from France, Canada, and the United Kingdom, among other countries, took the floor, celebrating an event unanimously described as historic. The international presence, even if disrupted, reinforced the symbolic significance of the event, which was widely shared on social media.
Contrary to the uncertainties of the previous day, the ceremony did indeed take place. The event was initially scheduled to be held at the Palais des Congrès in Versailles, in the Yvelines department, before being banned by prefectural decree and subsequently relocated. The choice of a private venue allowed the MAK to hold its ceremony without violating French law, while avoiding a public gathering. A significant police presence was deployed around the venue to prevent any incidents. And for good reason: the Algerian regime did everything it could to sabotage the event, mobilizing its diaspora and chartering buses from all over France for counter-demonstrations.
The day before, the prefectural ban issued by the Yvelines authorities cited a serious risk of public disorder. This decision led to an emergency appeal before the administrative court, which, according to the latest reports, has not ruled within the timeframe hoped for by the organizers. Nevertheless, the MAK (Movement for the Self-Determination of Kabylia) decided to maintain its event at all costs.
The unilateral proclamation of Kabylia's independence is an unprecedented step in Algeria's political history since independence. It marks a shift from political advocacy or the Kabyle people's identity-based demands to an openly pro-independence stance. A powerful political act, intended to capture the attention of public opinion, foreign governments, and international institutions.
This initiative comes amid heightened nervousness within the Algerian regime. The MAK's proclamation now promises to internationalize the issue. This proclamation thus opens a new phase of political confrontation. There will be a post-December 14th era, both domestically and internationally. - (ANA) -
