NEW YORK, 22 Sept. - (ANA) - Nearly 130 heads of state and government are expected to begin taking the podium today as the high-level general debate of UN General Assembly 81 opens. 

 

Widely regarded as the biggest annual gathering in international diplomacy, the debate will include today an address by President Trump. 

 

His speech comes as his approval rating fell to 32 per cent, its lowest level of his presidency, with his fellow Republicans souring on his handling of the cost of living amid the unpopular Iran war, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos poll. 

 

Leaders from Jordan, Turkey, Qatar, Egypt and Morocco are also scheduled to address the assembly on Tuesday. 

 

Chinese ⁠Vice ⁠President ​Han Zheng ⁠will be in attendance in New York this week, ​the ‌country's foreign ​ministry has said.

 

Also, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has left Tehran for New York to confront the US at the UN General Assembly, as the conflict between the two countries widens and Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi rebels escalate attacks.

 

Morning session: Brazil, US, Jordan, Turkey, Kyrgyzstan, Qatar, Lithuania, Peru, Egypt, Chile, Luxembourg, Finland, France and Tanzania.

 

Afternoon session: Mongolia, Korea, Suriname, Sierra Leone, Angola, Indonesia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dominica, Switzerland, Guatemala, Turkmenistan, Morocco, Vietnam, Seychelles, Nauru, Bhutan, UK and Japan.   - (ANA) -
