Dubai airport passengers can cut customs procedures from 45 minutes to under 5
DUBAI, 22 August. - (ANA) - Dubai airport passengers can reduce the time needed to complete customs procedures through the red channel from 45 minutes to less than five minutes using Dubai Customs’ iDeclare service, as authorities prepare for the post-summer travel peak.
Dubai Customs has deployed a comprehensive operational plan for returning residents and international visitors, with round-the-clock teams, increased staffing during peak periods, digital declaration tools and 77 baggage screening machines operating across Dubai’s air entry points.
The operational plan is designed to manage the influx of residents and international visitors returning to Dubai following the summer break.
Dubai Customs is increasing staffing levels in arrival halls and deploying personnel according to flight schedules and periods of peak demand.
Teams are also being reinforced in high-traffic areas, while the technical performance of screening equipment is being enhanced.

The measures are intended to manage passenger and baggage flows more efficiently and reduce the time between passengers arriving and completing customs procedures.
Customs teams operate around the clock at Dubai’s air entry points.
Dubai Customs’ technology infrastructure includes 77 baggage screening machines. Of these, 58 are used for checked and large baggage, while 19 are used for carry-on luggage. Additional inspection equipment also supports customs operations.
The screening system is designed to accelerate baggage checks and improve detection accuracy.
Customs inspectors work alongside the technology, assessing indicators of potential risk and directing inspections accordingly.
How Dubai’s iDeclare service works
Dubai Customs is also using digital services to streamline customs procedures for arriving passengers. Its smart iDeclare service works across a range of smart devices and allows travellers to declare personal belongings and accompanying gifts before they arrive.
According to Dubai Customs, the service can reduce the time needed to complete customs procedures through the red channel from 45 minutes to less than five minutes.
The digital process is also intended to reduce pressure on customs service points during peak travel periods. - (ANA) -
