Eurojust supports arrest of man suspected of intentional homicide of his partner

THE HAGUE, 19 May. - (ANA) - The reason for a woman’s disappearance from Switzerland is suspected to be intentional homicide by her partner. Swiss and Spanish authorities were able to arrest the suspect during a joint action day that took place in both countries. Throughout the investigation, authorities worked together with Eurojust to locate the suspect, collect evidence and find the remains of the victim.

The victim was last seen in Switzerland after attending a medical appointment. In early 2026, the victim’s family suspected that she was missing after a period without contact. An investigation was then launched in Switzerland.

Since the suspect had moved to a remote area in Spain, Swiss authorities needed support from their Spanish counterparts to continue the investigation. Through coordination by Eurojust, several Mutual Legal Assistance requests were executed and a joint action day was planned to take place in Spain and Switzerland.

According to the results of the investigation, the death occurred at an as yet unknown time in the vicinity of the suspect and the victim’s shared residence in Switzerland. It was also revealed that the deceased victim had never moved to Spain. Surveillance in Spain at the suspect’s residence was hindered by the very mountainous terrain where it was located and the many video surveillance systems that the residence was equipped with.

On 28 April, the Spanish and Swiss authorities carried out the joint action day. The suspect’s residence was searched and he was arrested. The woman’s remains were found on the property in Switzerland. Forensic examination confirmed that the remains found in the garden did indeed belong to the victim. The investigation into the exact cause of death is continues.

The actions were carried out by the following authorities:

- Switzerland: Public Prosecution Office Kreuzlingen (Canton of Thurgau)

- Spain: Court of First Instance of Falset; International Cooperation Prosecutor’s Office of Tarragona; Guardia Civil of Tarragona.    - (ANA) -
