Semenya left out of South Africa athletics team
Pretoria, 11 July-(ANA)-World 800m champion Caster Semenya has been left out of South Africa's team for the upcoming African Championships.
The 19-year-old has not competed for almost a year after gender tests but was cleared to compete by the athletics world governing body (IAAF) on Tuesday.
Semenya was expected to be involved for the games in Kenya on 28 July but will now work towards the Commonwealth Games in India this October.
She is set to return to competition at a low-key meet in Finland on 15 July.
The teenager has not raced competitively since winning the 800m world title in Berlin in August 2009.
It was in Germany where she sprang to world prominence, with rapid improvements over two laps leading some to speculate about her gender. (ANA)
