SA opposition parties to unite

Pretoria, 04 Aug-(ANA)-Talks between South Africa's opposition parties have begun in a move aimed at challenging the stranglehold of power from the African National Congress.

Local media reported on Monday that 11 leaders from the Congress of the People and the Democratic Alliance met in Cape Town on July 21 and held a meeting as part of efforts to jointly challenge the administration of President Jacob Zuma.

Independent Democrats leader Patricia de Lille on said COPE, DA, United Democratic Movement (UDM) and Independent Democrats (ID) had met to discuss their "realignment".

Another meeting is expected within the next few weeks.

COPE leader Mbhazima Shilowa, De Lille and UDM leader Bantu Holomisa reportedly met on July 7, where it was proposed that "a meeting among the leaders of opposition parties should be held" to discuss how to unseat the African National Congress (ANC). (ANA)
