UK embarks on new Africa strategy prioritising trade and investment

LONDON, 22 Dec. - (ANA) -  The United Kingdom (UK) has unveiled a new Africa strategy that prioritises trade and investment over traditional aid, aligning with a broader global shift led by the United States and other Western economies toward commercial partnerships on the continent.

Africa Minister Jenny Chapman said Britain is shifting from a donor model to one focused on mobilising private capital.

The strategy also includes plans to push for global debt reforms ahead of the UK’s G20 presidency in 2027.

The move aligns with a wider Western push to deepen commercial ties with Africa amid global trade uncertainty.

Post-Brexit Britain has been actively seeking new trade relationships, and Africa’s fast-growing markets are increasingly central to that push.

The United States has similarly signalled its intent to deepen commercial ties, particularly around critical minerals and energy, reinforcing Africa’s rising importance in global economic strategy.   - (ANA) -
