Cargo ships collide in Canadian canal
ONTARIO 15 Jul (ANA) - Two cargo ships have collided in the Welland Canal, Ontario as they slowly approached each other.
Eyewitness Alex Stewart said: "I wasn't expecting this for my first time watching the boat go down the canal."
The incident is now being investigated by Canada's Transportation Safety Board.
Local reports suggest both captains were in contact with each other before the accident. The ships involved were the heavy lift ship Alanis, which was carrying with wind turbine components and bound for Duluth, and the Canadian-flagged freighter Florence Spirit, which was carrying a load of coal to Quebec.
