Malawi revokes order on chief justice's forced leave

LILONGWE 8 Jul (ANA) - Malawi's new government has revoked an order telling the chief justice to go on leave before retirement.

Malawi's former President Peter Mutharika had directed the Chief Justice Andrew Nyirenda to begin his leave until his retirement.

That move had sparked criticism. Mr Nyirenda led the supreme court in its decision to nullify President Mutharika's election, paving the way for a re-run which he lost to the opposition.

In withdrawing that order, the new government said that matters of the chief justice's leave are between him and the judiciary service commission.(ANA)
