UK PM worried over easing lockdown
LONDON 20 Apr (ANA) - Boris Johnson is said to be cautious about easing the UK's coronavirus lockdown too quickly amid fears relaxed restrictions could lead to a "second peak" of Covid-19 cases.
The death toll among Covid-19 hospital patients has now reached 16,060, but scientists have warned there could be up to 40,000 deaths if Britain is hit by more waves of the virus.
It comes as the Government faces growing anger over a lack of personal protective equipment (PPE) for NHS workers after a much-anticipated shipment of 84 tonnes of vital equipment, including 400,000 gowns, failed to arrive from Turkey as scheduled on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Government scheme for workers who have been furloughed – given a temporary leave of absence during the virus outbreak – opens today, amid warnings that any delays in payments could be catastrophic for businesses.(ANA)
