UK Parliament suspension unlawful, Supreme court
LONDON 24 Sep (ANA) - Boris Johnson's decision to suspend Parliament was unlawful, the Supreme Court has ruled.
Mr Johnson suspended - or prorogued - Parliament for five weeks earlier this month, saying it was to allow a Queen's Speech to outline his new policies.
But the UK's highest court said it was wrong to stop Parliament carrying out its duties.
Lady Hale says the court's decision was unanimous, and the court can rule on the prorogation of Parliament.
The prorogation was null and void, therefore Parliament has not been prorogued and it is for Parliament to decide what to do next.
Eleven Supreme Court justices heard arguments on two appeals about the move last week.
The government has said it will abide by the court's ruling.(ANA)
