Morocco to build new terminal in Rabat-Salé airport

RABAT, 20 Dec. - (ANA) - Morocco is building a brand-new terminal in the Rabat-Salé airport to keep up with a growing number of passengers and air traffic as the North African country has become one of the world’s popular tourism destination and an attractive hub for investors.

King Mohammed VI, who spearheads the country’s modernization, launched on Wednesday the construction work of the new terminal to cost around €150 million.

The expansion of the Rabat’s international airport will increase its annual passenger capacity from 1.5 million currently to 4 million. It is part of an ambitious global development program that includes the Moroccan high-speed train, first of its kind in Africa, the burgeoning industrial zones, and the tallest skyscraper in the African continent under construction in Morocco’s capital city.

The new terminal will be built over a 69,000 m2 area, offering six additional aircraft parking stands, taxiways, advanced passenger boarding bridges, a multi-storey car parking, check-in and screening areas, customs control, free-duty shopping, restaurants, cafes…

The airport extension will also have positive economic impacts on the neighboring city of Kenitra, a fast growing industrial hub, hosting an increasing number of foreign investors and industrial group.

After launching the construction work of the new terminal, King Mohammed VI visited the 787-9 Dreamliner acquired by Moroccan flag carrier Royal Air Maroc to offer its clients a unique air travel experience.

The airplane’s unparalleled fuel efficiency and range flexibility enables carriers to profitably open new routes as well as optimize fleet and network performance. The Dreamliner offers passengers an experience like none other in the air, with more comfort and less fatigue.  - (ANA) -
