‘Truck carrying 34,000 litres of explosives’ stolen, Interpol
Zedelgem, Belgium 23 Jan (ANA) - Police forces across Europe have been put on alert amid fears a truck, believed to be carrying around 34,000 litres of bomb-making chemicals, has been stolen. Interpol, the world's largest police organisation, has reportedly raised the alarm following the theft of a lorry in the city of Zedelgem, Belgium. It is thought the chemicals could be used to produce explosives and authorities are keen to recover the truck as quickly as possible.

According to Spanish reporter Laura Alonso, the truck was carrying a volatile substance known as "Radiacid". The trailer reportedly has a registration number of 1-QEB-708 and is believed to be black. There are fears the thieves may have changed the numberplates, which would make the truck even more difficult to locate and identify.  Border crossings are on alert in France, Luxembourg, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands.

The news comes just days after Belgium lowered its terror threat level from three to two on a maximum scale of four for the first time in three years. The country has faced a series of terror threats in recent years and in March 2016, 32 civilians were killed and more than 300 others left injured when two ISIS suicide bombers attacked the Maalbeek metro station in central Brussels and Brussels Airport at Zavantem.(ANA)
