Japanese defense minister resigns over scandal

Tokyo 30 Jul (ANA) - The Japanese defence minister, Tomomi Inada, has resigned over allegations relating to a controversial Japanese military deployment in South Sudan. Mrs Inada has repeatedly denied claims she helped cover up internal records exposing the danger that Japanese peacekeepers faced during the operation. The Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, has apologised to the nation, saying he bore full responsibility for appointing her to the post.(ANA)
