Dogs, cats and rabbits join petition against Le Pen

PARIS, 05 May. - (ANA) - Hundreds of dogs, cats, rabbits and rats - and their owners - have been getting their claws into a new campaign urging French voters not to vote for Marine Le Pen.

“Paws For Effect” – a pet-powered political platform – is asking animal owners to post photos of their pooches and pussies beside #LePetContreLePen signs.

Orignally started last year to support the Stop Funding Hate’s bid to encourage big companies to drop adverts in newspapers which promote fear, hatred and division, Paws For Effect has now turned its sites on the French elections.

Over the last fortnight all kinds of animals have tweeted in, ranging from multiple breeds of cats and dogs, to pet birds, rodents and even a tortoise. Posts have come from around the UK and from as far afield as Australia.

“Pets are naturally open, loyal and loving and wouldn’t recognize prejudice and hate speech if it bit them on the leg,” says James Woodhouse, a Paws For Effect spokesperson.

“We have started this PETition in support of Stop Funding Hate because the disturbing rise in hate speech in mainstream media requires a response from us all. Paws For Effect aims to put the cat amongst the pigeons and consign Marine Le Pen to the dog house for good.”

One of the dog whose has thrown his limited weight behind the campaign is Robbie, famous for urinating on David Walliam’s shoe on Britain’s Got Talent. Robbie, who got through to the next round of the ITV talent show, with his doggy yoga (“doga”) joined the campaign last week.

“Robbie is all about peace and love,” his owner, yoga teacher, Mahny Djahanguiri explains. “But as well as being very spiritual he is also fiercely political. He would love to get a chance to cock his leg against Marine Le Pen’s steel stiletto.”

An online PETition already has hundreds of animal signatories and organisers have made a resolution to deliver a hard copy to the Elysee Palace should Marine Le Pen get elected. -(ANA)-
