Pakistan airlines escorted by fighter jets into London Stansted airport
LONDON, 07 Feb. - (ANA) - Two RAF fighter jets were scrambled to escort a Pakistan International Airlines flight to London Stansted Airport.
Essex Police said it was responding to reports of a “disruptive passenger” onboard the plane and that it was not believed to be a hijack situation or terror matter.
The Ministry of Defence confirmed RAF Typhoon jets were scrambled to intercept a civilian aircraft.
It is believed the Airbus A330-300, on a journey from Lahore to Heathrow Airport, landed at 1450 GMT.
Essex Police said in a statement: “An aircraft was diverted to Stansted Airport at around 3pm this afternoon, Tuesday, February 7, while over UK airspace en-route to Heathrow Airport due to reports of a disruptive passenger on board.
“The plane is currently at the airport and officers are making enquiries.
“There is no disruption to the ongoing operation of Stansted Airport.
“This is not believed to be a hijack situation or terror matter.” - (ANA) -
