Bruce Springsteen condemns Trump for promoting 'racism'

London 3 Jan (ANA) - Musician Bruce Springsteen has condemned US president-elect Donald Trump for promoting "racism and intolerance" saying he has never felt the kind of fear he feels now that the Republican is preparing to move into the White House. Speaking on the podcast, WTF with Marc Maron, he explained: "It's simply the fear of, 'Is someone simply competent enough to do this particular job?'" "Forget about where they are ideologically. Do they simply have the pure competence to be put in a position of such responsibility?" Bruce went on to add that while he understands why a large percentage of Americans voted for Trump, he is concerned about what will happen if "the worst aspects of what [Trump] appealed to comes to fruition". He told Marc: "When you let that genie out of the bottle – racism, bigotry, intolerance – when you let those things out of the bottle, they don't go back in the bottle that easily, if they go back in at all. "Whether it's a rise in hate crimes, people feeling that they have license to speak and behave in ways that were previously considered un-American, and are un-American. That's what he's appealing to." The 67-year-old continued by saying he worries the country will become "unrecognisable" under Trump's reign as President. "You look at who he's been picking for his Cabinet, that doesn't speak very well for what's coming up," he added. (ANA)
