China 'largest fishing power in West Africa'
Beijing 28 Nov (ANA) - China is now the largest fishing power in West Africa, according to the environmental organisation Greenpeace. And that's not necessarily a good thing, it says. Green Peace says reported catches have increased almost 12 times to 3.6m tonnes and illegal fishing is also becoming more common. It points to China's long-distance fishing fleet, numbering more than 2,000 vessels, which is 10 times more than the US. Yuyang Liu is a Chinese photographer who spent time in Senegal and Mauritania with Greenpeace earlier this year, watching the influx of Chinese fishing fleets and their impact.(ANA)
