UN delegates walk out on Syrian envoy

New York 9 Oct (ANA) - A number of delegates walked out of a UN Security Council meeting to vote on two draft proposals on a ceasefire in Aleppo on Saturday, when Russia gave the floor to an envoy of the Syrian regime. Saturday’s meeting saw Russia veto a French-drafted resolution calling for an immediate halt to air strikes on east Aleppo. A second ceasefire proposal drafted by Russia made no mention of stopping the bombings and was also rejected. The Syrian Army has made major advances in rebel-held areas of Aleppo since the start of the latest offensive, following the end of a ceasefire two weeks ago. However, the gains came at a huge human cost with hundreds of civilians killed, including many children.(ANA)
