US and Nigeria to develop counterrorism plans, Kerry

Washington, 22 Jul - (ANA) - US Secretary of State John Kerry has described Nigeria's newly elected president Muhammadu Buhari as "a ready and willingly partner" in the fight against terrorism and Boko Haram. At a reception for the visiting Nigerian leader, Mr Kerry said the Unites States looked forward to developing "our counterterrorism and our counter-Boko Haram plans even as we also work on energy development, on education, health, and other issues within the country." Kerry also commended president Buhari's military background and deep commitment to tackling corruption. Replying, president Buhari thanked the United States for sending a clear message to the previous administration that Nigeria's election must be free and fair, saying that message prepared "the minds of Nigerians to back us and to arrive where we are today."
