 Egypt's ex-spy chief Omar Suleiman dies

Washington, 19 Jul – (ANA) - Omar Suleiman, ex-head of Egyptian intelligence under ousted President Hosni Mubarak, has died in the United States. Gen Suleiman died in hospital in the early hours of today, the official news agency Mena reported. An aide to Gen Suleiman said his death had come unexpectedly while he was having medical tests, Reuters reports.

Gen Suleiman was appointed vice-president by Mubarak the last days of the former leader's rule. He made a bid to stand for president in this year's election but was disqualified for technical reasons. Gen Suleiman, who was in his 70s, served as head of Egyptian intelligence from 1993. (ANA)
