Somali Journalists condemn murder of Radio Journalist
Mogadishu, 25 May – (ANA) - The National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) has expressed shock and outrage at the murder of a radio journalist in Mogadishu, the sixth such killing of a journalist in Somalia this year. Ahmed Addow Anshur, 25, was murdered yesterday by four men armed with pistols. Anshur died on the spot after he was shot four times in the head and chest. “We strongly condemn this indescribable murder of Ahmed Addow Anshur whose work as a journalist over the years has been lauded for his high professional quality and integrity,” said Omar Faruk Osman, NUSOJ Secretary General. “It is obvious that he was murdered in the exercise of his professional work as a journalist so that he does not expose uncomfortable truth”.
NUSOJ called on the Transitional Federal Government and the African Union Peacekeeping troops in Mogadishu to act firmly and urgently to dispel the climate of impunity for attacks on journalists. (ANA)
