Donald Trump sparks health fears as he grabs tissue at rally - 'he's losing it'

By Sophie Roberts

FLORIDA, USA, 31 Oct. - (ANA) - Donald Trump sparked fresh health concerns after pausing a midterm campaign rally to grab a glass of water and a tissue. But he downplayed the interruption.
Donald Trump is certainly no stranger to being the centre of attention, but his current stint on the US midterm campaign trail has seen him placed under a remarkably intense microscope.

It isn't just his political manoeuvring that has got tongues wagging. Observers have also expressed concern for the President's well-being as he spends weeks flying across the US to drum up support.

Trump, 80, has been accused of losing it on camera and launching into incoherent rants in recent days. Now, critics are scrutinising a bizarre moment from his campaign rally at Daytona Beach, Florida.

On Friday, the US leader sparked concern when he paused his speech to reach for a tissue and a glass of water.

Trump seemed to have difficulty keeping one eye open, so he asked the crowd if he could stop for a moment to rectify the problem. He said: "Do you mind? I got a thing in my eye - watch this."

Anticipating the inevitable questions this would raise about his health, Trump quickly tried to downplay the moment. He added: "I wish I had a little eye drops, but if I did, they'd say 'he's seriously ill, there's something wrong with him'."

The audience laughed alongside Trump and appeared untroubled by the pause. Nevertheless, social media commentators suggested he was minimising the extent of his health struggles.

When footage from the rally was posted on X, one user commented: "Good lord! They need to get grandpa off the stage. He is losing it.

Another remarked: "I think I have eye drops in every pocket of every coat and jacket and in all my purses. I have pale blue eyes, so they're a necessity. Trump doesn't forget his spray tan and hairspray, but forgets something important."

A third posted: "Oh, we know there's something wrong with him." And a fourth contributed: "OMG. This man is not the comedian he thinks he is. He's seriously declining."

Even if Trump is feeling under the weather after all that campaigning, he is showing no signs of slowing down as the US midterms approach.

These crucial elections take place every four years - exactly at the halfway point of a sitting president's tenure. They are always held on the first Tuesday following the first Monday in November, which this year falls on November 3.

The midterms are hugely significant because they decide who ultimately controls Congress. All 435 seats in the US House of Representatives (who serve two-year terms) and roughly one-third of the 100 US Senate seats (who serve six-year terms) are up for grabs.

Whichever party gains a majority gets to dictate the legislative agenda, decide committee leadership, and control the approval of federal budgets.

Crucially, a change in congressional control can severely restrict a president's plans. It allows the opposition to launch intense investigative hearings and block the confirmation of federal judges and cabinet appointees in the Senate.

With so much on the line, it is no surprise that Trump is going all out to secure every last vote this autumn.   - (ANA) -
