 Magnitude 4.5 earthquake injures at least 2 dozen people in Italy, causes buildings to collapse

QUARTO, Italy, - (ANA) - A magnitude 4.5 earthquake rocked southern Italy near Naples on Friday afternoon, injuring more than two dozen people.
 
The earthquake happened at 1:46 p.m. ET, or 7:46 p.m. Italy time, on Friday.
 
According to data from the U.s. Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake was 3.1 miles beneath the surface and happened one mile north of Quarto, Italy, a town in the Phlegraean Fields or Campi Flegrei region west of Naples.
 
According to Italy's Civil Protection Department, multiple uninhabited buildings collapsed and at least 26 people were injured.
 
The department said 21 injuries were reported in Pozzuoli and five were reported in Giugliano.
 
Additionally, multiple landslides and rockslides were reported around the region.
 
Strong shaking was reported near the earthquake's epicenter, according to USGS data.
 
Campi Flegrei (Phlegrean Fields) is an active volcano near Naples, Italy and it is monitored by the Italitan Vesuvious Observatory.   - (ANA) -
