China moves AI brain implants from trials towards real-world use
BEIJING, 21 May. - (ANA) - Chinese start-ups are rapidly advancing AI-powered brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) to help people with paralysis and neurodegenerative diseases move, speak, and control devices, according to World Economic Forum.
These BCIs use sensors on the brain's surface and integrate large language models to decode brain activity with high accuracy and speed, enabling activities like controlling appliances and real-time Mandarin communication.
The Chinese government aims to lead globally in BCI technology by 2030, supporting commercial development and imposing ethical guidelines to protect user data.
Public acceptance in China is high, partly due to cultural attitudes towards data sharing, enabling ongoing improvements in BCI technology. - (ANA) -
