US warns Gulf allies of possible renewal of Iran war, report says

NEW YORK, 29 Oct. - (ANA) - The Wall Street Journal has reported that the Trump administration has warned several Gulf Arab countries to prepare for a possible renewed US military campaign against Iran after the November 3 midterm elections.

President Donald Trump is leaning towards a short but intense wave of strikes, potentially targeting Iranian nuclear facilities, missile and drone arsenals and critical infrastructure, although he has not made a final decision and diplomatic efforts continue, the Journal said on Tuesday, citing anonymous people briefed on the matter.

The US is reinforcing regional defences, replenishing munitions, moving troops away from vulnerable bases and preparing additional warships, aircraft and Marines. Israel is also drawing up plans for renewed attacks, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pushing for further action to weaken Tehran.

Washington hopes renewed military pressure could force Iran to make concessions in stalled nuclear negotiations. But analysts have warned further strikes may not force Tehran to capitulate and could instead strengthen its determination to rebuild its military capabilities, the Journal reported.

Iran retains substantial missile stocks and has threatened retaliation against economic and civilian targets across the Gulf, where US allies are already replenishing depleted missile defences. -(ANA) -
