Iran faces daily gas shortfall of 530 million cubic metres, presidential aide says
TEHRAN, 19 Oct. - (ANA) - Iran faces a daily gas shortfall of about 530 million cubic metres due to production disruption caused by US attacks on the Assaluyeh gas refinery, a presidential aide has said.
“Last year, we had a gas imbalance of about 300 million cubic metres, and this year, with the US attack on the Assaluyeh gas refinery, more than 230 million cubic metres of our production per day was disrupted,” Mohammad Jafar Ghaempanah was quoted as saying on the website of the reformist Entekhab newspaper.
Mr Ghaempanah, Vice President of Iran for Executive Affairs and Chief of Staff to President Masoud Pezeshkian, said about 100 million cubic metres of gas per day could be restored to the national supply network by the end of the month.
But he urged producers to curb energy use, saying: “I ask all of you producers to make the necessary arrangements and take action from now to reduce electricity consumption and gas consumption, so that, God forbid, we do not face problems.”
He said Mr Pezeshkian had stressed that electricity and gas supplies to producers should not be cut. “It requires all of us, through a national effort, to try to consume less gas.” - (ANA) -
