Pakistan warns Iran to rein in Houthis after Saudi attacks

ISLAMABAD, 10 Sept. - (ANA) - Pakistan has delivered a warning to Iran to rein in Yemen's Houthi rebels after they stepped up attacks on the Saudi kingdom.

The Iran-backed Houthis struck an airbase and oil infrastructure in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, wounding at least 73 people. Saudi Arabia responded with 54 air strikes across Yemen, the Houthis said.

A senior regional diplomat said Pakistan delivered the warning to Tehran on Tuesday, Reuters reported. An Iranian official confirmed the message, but said: “Iran does not control the Houthis."

Two Iranian sources said that Tehran had instructed the Houthis last week to attack Saudi Arabia and promised additional funding and weapons.

Pakistan has a defence pact with Saudi Arabia and Turkey.

“An aggression on one country will be considered an aggression on all three countries,” Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said.

“Unprovoked aggression or spillover ... into Saudi Arabia will definitely make this agreement operational.” Islamabad would pursue a diplomatic solution for now, he added.  - (ANA) -
