[Published: Monday August 24 2026]

Only 20 commodity vessels transited Hormuz at the weekend

DUBAI, 24 August. - (ANA) - Fewer than 20 commodity vessels transited Hormuz at the weekend, shipping data showed on Monday, as Iranian and US blockades restrict traffic through the chokepoint for energy shipments.

Four vessels crossed the strait on Sunday, initial data from shiptracker Kpler showed by 06:30 am United Arab Emirates (UAE) time, with 13 on Saturday. Iran has warned that ships violating transit rules in the strait could face penalties including detention or confiscation.

Oil prices slipped more than $1 a barrel this morning as investors took profits ahead of an expected announcement from Washington about imposing more sanctions on Iran that may further disrupt supplies from the Middle East.

Brent crude futures fell $1.23, or 1.3 per cent, to $93.16 by 07:30 am UAE time, while US West Texas Intermediate crude was at $85.7 a barrel, down $1.36, or 1.6 per cent.   - (ANA) -
