ISRAELI OCCUPIED GAZA, 06 August. - (ANA) - Israeli forces are attempting to conceal evidence of crimes committed in Gaza by removing millions of tonnes of rubble from the territory, a rights groups said Monday.

 

Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor said soldiers and contractors have cleared at least 10 million tonnes of debris from the two-thirds of Gaza currently under Israeli control.

 

The organisation said it has tracked almost 100 trucks leaving Gaza every day carrying rubble to undisclosed locations in Israel and the occupied West Bank.

 

Around 400 pieces of heavy machinery are being operated by civilian contractors to demolish buildings, bulldoze the land, and clear the debris from the scene.

 

"The systematic removal of rubble at this pace conceals the evidence of appalling crimes Israel committed in Gaza, especially those related to genocide, such as summary executions and killing unarmed civilians," Euro-Med said.

 

"These sites need careful examination and thorough criminal investigation before any intervention that might change or erase their features," it added.

 

The report said the operation could irreversibly destroy evidence of crimes being investigated by the International Criminal Court, which in 2024 indicted Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former defence minister for war crimes.

 

The Israeli military has reduced much of Gaza to rubble since October 2023. Thousands of airstrikes and controlled demolitions have wiped entire cities off the map, transforming most of the territory into a wasteland.

 

A damage assessment published by the UN, World Bank and EU in April said the demolition had left more than 68 million tonnes of rubble.

 

The Israeli military has destroyed or damaged more than 80% of all structures in the strip, including more than three-quarters homes.

 

The assessment put the reconstruction cost at more than $71 billion, with more than $1.7 billion needed just to clear the debris.  - (ANA) -
