Twenty-two million school children enrol in FTI-endorsed countries
Washington, 30 Apr – (ANA) – About 22 million more children enrolled in school in 43 Fast Track Initiative (FTI) endorsed developing countries between 2000 and 2008, according to the Annual Report 2010 of the Education for All –Fast Track Initiative (EFA FTI)
The EFA FTI is an international partnership of developing and donor countries, dedicated to ensuring quality basic education for all children. Primary school children in FTI countries, of which 25 are in Sub-Saharan Africa, totalled 81 million in 2008. This improvement was particularly significant in Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, and Niger, where primary school enrolment more than doubled. The number of out-of-school children in FTI partner countries fell during the same period from 23.5 million to 14 million, a 40 percent decrease. (ANA)
