US to train security forces in Nigeria

Lagos, 16 Sept-(ANA)-The U.S. will train the Nigerian military and police to ensure security in the oil producing country, deputy assistant secretary of state William Fitzgerald has said.

In a conference call, Fitzgerald said a recent government-sponsored amnesty for militants in the country's oil-rich Niger Delta appeared to be working adding that more needed to be done to ensure ex-fighters receive "honest wages,"  and discontinue attacks on oil pipelines and politicians in the run-up to elections in January.
