South Africa's Zuma in India on first Asia visit

New Delhi, 03 June-(ANA)-South African President Jacob Zuma is in India on his first state visit to Asia since he took office in May last year.

The two countries want to boost their trade and investment ties.

India's trade with South Africa - one of Africa's fastest growing economies - is worth $7bn (£4.8bn).

Reforms to the UN Security Council and climate change are also expected to be on the agenda during Mr Zuma's three-day visit.

Mr Zuma is reportedly accompanied by a 200-member business delegation.

"We are negotiating a bilateral investment and promotion agreement to boost our economic relationship further," Indian foreign ministry spokesman Vishnu Prakash was quoted as saying by AFP news agency.

Mr Zuma will launch a bilateral trade forum in India's financial capital, Mumbai.

He is due to meet Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in the capital, Delhi, on Friday. (ANA)
