Nigerian kidnappers free 4 foreign workers

Port Harcourt, Nigeria, 14 April (ANA) - Nigerian kidnappers have released four Syrian and Lebanese construction workers, five days after they were taken near the oil hub Port Harcourt, a police spokeswoman said today.

"The four expatriate construction workers kidnapped on April 9 have been released by their captors," said Rita Inoma Abbey, spokeswoman for Rivers state police.

She said it was not clear whether a ransom was paid.

Kidnappings for ransom are common in the oil-producing Niger Delta with hundreds of incidents reported each year. Most are released unharmed after a couple of days. (ANA)
