IBAHRI welcomes trend towards abolition of death penalty
London, 11 Dec-(ANA)-The International Bar Association’s Human Rights Institute (IBAHRI) has commended the growing trend towards worldwide abolition of the death penalty, but remains concerned over the rates of imposition in certain countries.
‘We welcome the fact that Europe, with the exception of Belarus, is now free of the death penalty,” IBAHRI said in commemoration of Human Rights Day on 10 December.
IBAHRI Co-Chair Martin Solc said “ Central Asia remains free of capital punishment and executions in the United States appear to be decreasing.
However, we remain extremely concerned with the rates of execution in the Middle East and Asia, particularly in China.” (ANA)
