Mugabe told to stop selling blood diamonds
London, 05 Nov-(ANA)-Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe has been accused a global campaign organisation of brutally seizing control of his country's diamond fields and is using the profits to finance a vicious political militia.
The organisation, Avaaz.org, said the actions of the militia have killed thousands of Zimbabweans and threaten the fragile unity government.
“Letting Mugabe keep these diamonds could finance a whole new war,” Avaaz said.
The group of countries regulating the global diamond trade are meeting in Namibia to decide whether to suspend Mugabe and stop him selling “blood diamonds” on the world market.
Avaaz.org has called for a massive global petition to show that the diamond-buying public is demanding action adding “an engagement ring should be something given and worn out of love, let’s tell diamond regulators to keep it that way.” (ANA)
