First swine flu case in Morocco

Rabat, 13 June-(ANA)-Morocco has confirmed its first case of swine flu - making it the second African country after Egypt to be hit by the H1N1 virus, the BBC has reported quoting authorities.

An 18-year-old woman who is a student in Canada is stable after being treated in Fez, the report says.

Her fellow passengers on Wednesday's flight from Montreal to Casablanca and the Casablanca-Fez internal flight are being monitored for symptoms.

Swine flu has killed about 140 people since it was first detected in April.

It is the first flu pandemic in 40 years - the last in 1968 killed about one million people.

However, the current outbreak - which began in Mexico - seems to be moderate and causing mild illness in most people. (ANA)
