Harare, 19 March-(ANA)- Zimbabwe is seeking assistance with grain imports following successive years of drought and reduced agricultural capacity, an economic policy document releasedby the new power-sharing government has shown.
"Everything being equal, Zimbabwe requires 2 million tonnes of maize and about 500,000 tonnes of wheat per year to feed its population," part of the document read.
"In the past few years we have failed to produce on average more than 20 percent of these requirements. Therefore, present assistance must be based on acquiring 80 percent of these cereals."(ANA)
