Pressure on PM Johnson to announce a lockdown
LONDON, 29 Oct. - (ANA) - The United Kingdom (UK) yesterday reported 310 new deaths and 24,701 new cases.
Pressure is mounting on Prime Minister Boris Johnson to impose a national lockdown after two of Europe’s biggest economies reintroduced tight restrictions.
President Emmanuel Macron said France risks being “overwhelmed by a second wave”, while German Chancellor Angela Merkel said her country had to “act now”.
France reported 36,437 new cases and 244 deaths yesterday, while Germany clocked a record 16,774 infections and 89 deaths. In worrying signs, the UK posted 24,701 cases and 310 deaths.
The British Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage) has predicted that Covid-19 cases across the country will soon have “succeeded the levels in areas already in the highest category” of restrictions. - (ANA) -
