 Irish cabinet self-isolate

DUBLIN 16 Sep (ANA) - The entire cabinet in the Republic of Ireland will self-isolate, with the Health Minister having tests for coronavirus. The Irish parliament (Dáil) has been adjourned after Stephen Donnelly became unwell.

It comes on the basis of advice from the Acting Chief Medical Officer, Dr Ronan Glynn, following this morning’s Cabinet meeting, the Independent.ie reported. Seán Ó Fearghaíl, the Ceann Comhairle, made the announcement today saying: ‘I have very serious information. ‘I’m told that arising out of events today, the Cabinet must now self-isolate.

‘Therefore the possibility of proceeding with business does not arise and the house stands adjourned, I suspect, until Tuesday next. So Dail adjourned until further notice.’

A Government spokesperson said: ‘The Minister contacted his GP and he has been referred for a Covid-19 test. ‘He has gone home and will restrict his movements.’

The paper reported that two other ministers are self-isolating while awaiting a test for either themselves or a member of their household. Europe Minister Thomas Byrne told a Brexit business briefing via video link that he had developed a minor cough yesterday.

Meanwhile, Eamon Ryan, the Green Party leader and Transport Minister, joined today’s cabinet meeting remotely as a precaution while awaiting a Covid-19 test for a member of his household.(ANA)
