MEPs discuss rule of law in Hungary with Council, Commission and PM Orbán
BRUSSELS, 12 Sept. - (ANA) - MEPs discussed the rule of law in Hungary in a debate with Frans Timmermans, the Austrian Presidency and Prime Minister Viktor Orbán on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, Parliament will decide whether the EU must intervene to counter the risk of a serious breach of EU values in Hungary. This will be the first time, that Parliament votes on a legislative proposal calling on the EU countries to initiate Article 7 proceedings against a member state in view of a risk of threat to the EU’s values.
To be adopted, the draft report prepared by Judith Sargentini (Greens/EFA, NL), needs the backing of an absolute majority of MEPs, i.e. 376 MEPs, and two thirds of the vote cast. - (ANA) -
