Marrakech, Morocco, 27 Nov. - (ANA) - The second edition of the World Forum on Human Rights kicked off Thursday in Marrakech, Morocco, with the participation of more than 6,000 people from hundred countries.
As the proceedings will last till 30 November, the forum is a platform to tackle several issues, including the rights of children, women, disabled people and migrants, in addition to other unresolved issues from the Vienna Conference on Human rights and other issues related to the new generation of human rights.
The list of participants includes Nobel Peace Prize winners, heads of UN agencies, government representatives, NGOs, leading academics, human rights activists and the international media.
The meeting will feature thematic forums that will be organized and managed by civil society stakeholders.
The main conclusions will be presented at a final conference that will bring together civil society, representatives of the international system of human rights protection and international NGOs.
The NGO African Action for Peace and Development in the Great Lakes region (AIPD) underlined the “impressive reform impetus in motion in Morocco”. “We have great admiration for the actions initiated in recent years to promote a dynamic of global reforms especially in the field of human rights”, said expressed Maurice Katala AIPD president. “Morocco represents a model to emulate” in the the promotion of de defence of human rights including the rights of foreigners and migrants”, he added. He also pointed out that the kingdom has in a short time legalised the situation of asylum seekers and foreigners who are illegally in the country and contributed in solving the problem with determination.
The first World Forum on Human Rights was held in 2013 in Brazil. - (ANA)
