Algeria/Presidential electionsBack
[Published: Friday March 14 2014]

Algiers, 14 March. - (ANA) - The Algerian Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal is expected to quit his post in order to run the election campaign for President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, according to the algerian daily La Depeche de Kabylie.

The head-of-state is looking to win a fourth term in office in the April 17th elections. The outgoing premier will reportedly be replaced by Energy Minister Youcef Yousfi. Sellal ran Bouteflika's election campaigns in 2004 and 2009.

The ailing Bouteflika amended the constitution in 2009 to seek his third term in office.

"President Bouteflika is in good health. He has the intellectual capacity and vision needed to guarantee this responsibility," AFP quoted Sellal as saying despite the fact that most Algerians believe that their President is not fit for office and he was incapacitated by a stroke last year. More than 80 people have announced their candidacy for the poll. -(ANA)
